Terms of Service
Last updated: March 2026
1. Scope of Service
materialref.com ("the Service") is an online platform that provides cross-reference data for engineering materials, including equivalent grades, chemical compositions, mechanical properties, and heat treatment parameters across international standards such as EN, ASTM, JIS, GB, and others.
Access to the Service is available in free and paid tiers. Certain features — including detailed composition comparisons, mechanical property data, heat treatment information, PDF exports, and API access — require a paid subscription.
2. Data Accuracy Disclaimer
All material data on materialref.com is provided for reference purposes only. While we strive to ensure accuracy by cross-referencing multiple authoritative sources, materialref.com makes no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, or reliability of any data presented.
Users must always verify material data against the applicable specification or standard document before making engineering, procurement, or manufacturing decisions. materialref.com shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from reliance on data provided through the Service.
Material equivalents shown on the platform indicate similarity, not identity. Two materials listed as equivalents may differ in specific composition ranges, test requirements, or delivery conditions.
3. User Accounts & Subscriptions
To access certain features you must create an account using a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. You may cancel at any time through your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial billing periods.
We reserve the right to modify subscription pricing with 30 days prior notice. Existing subscribers will be notified via email before any price change takes effect.
4. API Usage Terms
API access is available to subscribers on eligible plans. Each API key is bound to a single user account and must not be shared.
Rate limits are enforced per plan tier. Exceeding rate limits may result in temporary throttling (HTTP 429). Systematic abuse, scraping beyond authorized API access, or redistribution of bulk data is prohibited and may result in account termination.
API responses may be cached by the client for reasonable periods. Redistribution of cached data as a competing service is not permitted.
5. Intellectual Property
The structure, presentation, and aggregation of material data on materialref.com is protected by copyright. Raw material specifications remain the intellectual property of their respective standards organizations (e.g., DIN, ASTM, JIS).
Users may cite individual data points from materialref.com with proper attribution. Bulk copying, scraping, or systematic reproduction of the database is prohibited.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, materialref.com and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill.
Total liability shall not exceed the fees paid by the user in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
7. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms, including but not limited to: abuse of the API, redistribution of data, or fraudulent activity. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings.
Upon termination, your right to access paid features ceases immediately. Data associated with your account will be deleted within 30 days, subject to legal retention obligations.
8. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The courts of Germany shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
